Tips to Protect our Brain

The brain is the center of the nervous system, and being the master organ of our bodies, it should be well protected. The scalp is a tough wrapping outside the skull that can absorb blows, and inside the skull is a tough membrane called the dura mater that protects the brain. The brain, encased in fluid and floats in liquid that helps absorb traumatic shocks, gives additional protective device against blows and flows. However, this "built-in" defense provided to us by "Nature" should be taken cared of. Regardless of age, we cannot anticipate the possibility of accidents, but by knowing the hazards, this can minimize mistakes that cause accidents which can possibly lead to brain injury.

Knowing is one thing, doing is another thing. Sometimes, even though we know the safety measures to avoid hazards, being persistent to what we want to do, we tend to forget that if something goes wrong, we will regret the effect for the rest of our lives. Not all accidents however, is caused by not following the safety rules. Driving is an example. We might be careful in driving, but the other driver might be reckless that will cause the accident.

Automobile drivers should always remember the terrible consequences of brain injuries when indulging in reckless speeding and other unsafe practices. Workers must learn the physical as well as the chemical hazards on the job to prevent brain and nerve injuries. Alertness is essential when looking after a baby or a child especially when they are at their crawling stage, learning to walk, and doing things that can endanger them while exploring their own world. Bumping their heads against hard objects can be fatal, depending on the impact, let alone brain damage if not fatal.

Adding to the protection of the brain against injuries from blows and accidents, we should let our brain operate at a maximum efficiency by providing sleep, which rests and revitalizes the brain. The well-balanced diets will provide the brain with all the vitamins and nourishment it requires.
